The position has oversight responsibility for all matters relating to the investigative functions of the OIG and the incumbent manages a broad investigative program tasked with investigating allegations of criminal and civil violations relating to all HUD programs and operations.
Using thorough and expert knowledge of investigative principles, procedures, and techniques, the incumbent participates fully in the development, execution and direction of an investigative program which is comprehensive, effective, and responsive to the interests and needs of the OIG. The incumbent supports the OIG in the detection and prevention of fraud, waste, and abuse, and mismanagement in order to ensure the integrity of HUD’s programs, administration, and personnel. The work performed supports all aspects of the Office of Investigation’s operations by setting policy and program standards; evaluating program effectiveness; budgeting and allocating resources; proactively planning investigative strategies; and providing investigative data and reports. The incumbent is responsible for setting organizational goals, monitoring and evaluating progress toward these goals, and is held accountable for the success of the programs under his or her supervision.

As an AIGI, you will:
- Oversee the development of the OI strategic plan, including OI’s strategic contributions to the OIG mission and the direction of their operations to support the OIG’s efforts to meet its various goals.
- Recommend changes in existing or new regulations, policies, procedures, standards, and criteria to ensure adequate investigative and legal accountability and reporting and efficient and economical use of resources relating to activities carried out or financed by the Department.
- Provide guidance and leadership to all OI staff in regards to the many varied and complex Departmental programs and operations.
- Be expected to be involved in the investigation of high level government officials requiring great discretion and tact.
- Carry out the programmatic and staff management responsibilities of the office.
- Coordinate and work with investigative organizations of state and other Federal agencies in investigative matters.
- Control the use and dissemination of reports, files and information developed by the Office of Investigation, as well as similar information developed and furnished by other investigative agencies, e.g. the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Office of Personnel Management and the Postal Inspection Service.
