Duties

Help

As a Defense Logistics Liaison Officer, you will:

  • Assist in providing DOD with information necessary to make timely decision concerning resource allocation, acquisition planning, and programming of Navy managed or funded maritime industry-related activities.
  • Ensure ·the accuracy and timeliness of MARADS inputs toward maintaining various sealift data bases.
  • Serve as MARAD’s representative to the DOD logistics community with responsibility for increasing recognition of the global interrelationships of all shipping and industrial support infrastructures.
  • Performs studies and analyses of program area which are of mutual interest to the DOD logistics community.
  • Maintain surveillance of significant developments related to the Defense Logistics, prepares analyses of the implication of these developments and recommends modification.

Serves as MARAD's Defense Logistics Liaison Officer and exercises responsibility for facilitating the continuous flow of accurate information to and from both groups in the maritime industry-related areas of strategic sealift, merchant marine manpower and ship industrial infrastructures.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.
  • PROBATIONARY PERIOD: You must complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).
  • TIME-IN-GRADE: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
  • BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: You will be required to complete a background/security investigation and meet preliminary requirements prior to onboarding

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must (1) meet the Education Requirement for the series, (2) provide a copy of transcripts for verification, AND (3) meet either the education or experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

To qualify for the GS-14, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-13, it must include:

  • Experience handling complex MARAD/DOD plans, requiring continuing efforts to establish concepts, theories, programs, and to develop new hypotheses, or to resolve unyielding problems.

To qualify for the GS-15, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-14, it must include:

  • Experience making recommendations to senior management and the public for appropriate action, based on sound judgment, program goals, priorities, commitments of the Agency, and the specifics of varied transactions.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
