Duties

Help

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising and coordinating team of reporters, editors, producers, animators, and artists, developing, reporting, and producing stories on a variety of issues that include politics, economy, immigration, education, health, and science, looking for unique angles and in depth reporting for visual storytelling on digital platforms.
  • Providing leadership on and coordinating a multitude of on-going major, complex, subject matter projects as well as developing and breaking news to digital graphic designers and video journalists.
  • Coordinating the visual storytelling of breaking news as well as enterprise reporting across the United States and around the world.
  • Responsible for all aspects of content, which includes the development, design, production, presentation, evaluation, and analysis of all materials.
  • Ensuring all content producers provide ambitious/unbiased reporting and utilizes appropriate reporting tools to include analysis of documents and developments, which are accurate, balanced, and comprehensive.
  • Ensuring VOA is adapting to new visual storytelling norms and experimenting with and utilizing developing technologies to do so.
  • Collaborating and coordinating with news managers, Internet Managing Editors and house-wide graphic artists, reporters, and digital video journalists to set reporting priorities.
  • Coordinating visual storytelling across VOA's Divisions and recommends assignments of staff to accomplish reporting goals.
  • Ensuring VOA has an agency wide look, feel, and approach for visual storytelling.
  • Planing, developing, and implementing program strategies for major projects related to the mission and function of VOA.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13), which is directly related to this line of work.

Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Listed below are specialized experiences, whichMUST be addressed within the application, in order to be considered.

Specialized Experience, Which Must be Addressed:

  1. Ability to lead in-depth news reports and special projects, shaping, guiding, reporting and telling reputable, balanced, unbiased, comprehensive, and compelling visual stories.
  2. Ability to lead in-depth news using multimedia platforms such as TV, digital and social media, (i.e., Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
  3. Knowledge of international and national journalism laws, practices, and ethics with familiarity of libel laws and other laws governing investigative journalism.
  4. Skill in the management of people working in highly stressful newsroom conditions and knowledge of modern management techniques and practices aimed at guiding and motivating subordinates.

1. If you are an eligible Inter Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) applicant, you may apply for special selection over other candidates for this position. To be well-qualified and exercise selection priority for this vacancy, displaced Federal employees must be rated at 85 or above on the rating criteria for this position.
