Duties

Help
  • Provide consultation and advice in the development and implementation of priorities, strategies, and practices for communicating with various audiences (e.g., general public, underserved populations, and populations at risk).
  • Develop, test, and disseminate science- and audience-based products, tools, and messages to different audiences in a variety of formats
  • Research and/or evaluate activities related to health communication and marketing.
  • Coordinate data collection from program offices for the development of communication products.
  • Perform liaison activities between program and other communication and marketing staff and with external stakeholders.
  • Present health communication briefings or presentations to various groups.
  • Draft letters, memos, media relations materials and other documents addressing public health communication issues.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective management of program resources and administrative processes.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

GS-11
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include supporting the research, development and implementation of public health communication programs, to include including social media and emergency risk communication.

OR

PH.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or LL.M, in public health or other field of study with course work that is directly related to the work of the position to be filled.

OR

A combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11.
