Duties

Help
  • Perform program support in the coordination of information disseminated to Congressional and Intergovernmental offices concerning Census Bureau Programs and activities.
  • Assist in the development of charts and fact sheets for inclusion in briefing materials, press releases, newsletters and other medium used by Members of Congress and other state, local, and tribal government officials.
  • Explain in person and in writing complex technical information relating to census surveys, data and programs in an organized and concise manner so that it be understood by a variety of audiences.
  • Review legislative issues and current trends in Congress state, local and tribal government officials utilizing latest software applications.

This is a Term Appointment, initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 9/26/2020.

A trial period may be required. 

This position is INELIGIBLE for telework; additional criteria will be required (e.g., supervisory approval).

This is a BARGAINING unit position.

Relocation expenses may be paid.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:

For the GG-11, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service.

Experience for this position includes: disseminating and coordinating information to varied audience concerning programs and activities; preparing charts and facts sheets for press releases and other medium uses by Members of Congress, state, local and tribal government officials; explaining complex technical information as it relates to matters concerning the inner workings of the U.S. House and Senate and state legislatures; and identifying issues and current trends in Congress, state, local and tribal governments, and the private sector.

OR

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

  • Knowledge of and ability to explain in plain language the legislative process and an awareness of sensitivities, concerns, and inner workings of the U.S. House and Senate and state legislatures.
  • Knowledge of the legislative process, possession of political acumen, and the ability to gather, assemble, and provide some analysis of facts, draw conclusions and offer solutions to assigned problems that affects flow of information to Congress and other government officials utilizing latest software applications.
