Duties

Help

  • Write high-quality media advisories, press releases and talking points with little need for editing.
  • Collaborate with agency colleagues to gather data and information for talking points, press inquiries, social media posts, etc.
  • Manage the press office inbox and respond to press inquiries in coordination with the Director of Communications.
  • Participate in travel/staffing/press & media liaison for principals and representatives on agency mission trips.
  • Work with reporters to shape, develop and pitch stories.
  • Write press briefing documents to prepare senior staff for media interviews.
  • Staff media interviews.
  • Collaborate with agency colleagues to gather data and information for talking points, press inquiries, etc. Determine the most logical and effective use of information. Determine overall length and tone, based on the objectives and the audience.
  • Prepare assignments based on input from subject matter experts, often culling information from a number of sources.
  • Manage agency talking points and messaging materials and related databases, and distribute to agency staff as appropriate.

Qualifications

To qualify for pay band 4a you must meet the following:

Have at least one year of specialized experience relevant to the position duties and comparable to the MCC Pay Band 4b (GS-12) or an equivalent level, which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, this experience is defined as: experience which required basic knowledge of social media; experience on the record engaging with reporters and shaping media coverage; experience managing media requests and preparing agency responses; experience generating positive media coverage; cultivating relationships with media; and experience developing communications products for external audiences such as the media, development community, international partners and key stakeholders. Note: This experience MUST be well documented within your resume or application.
