About the Position: Serve as the Public Affairs Specialist with the United States Army Recruiting Command.

The U.S. Army Recruiting Command is responsible for manning both the Active Army and the U.S. Army Reserve, insuring security and readiness for our Nation. Recruiting operations are conducted throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and at U.S. facilities in Germany and Asia.

Duties

Help
  • Works regularly with Headquarters, Recruiting Command's web content manager and social media marketing representative to ensure content integration and synchronization between the Command's website and social media platforms.
  • Attends working groups, operational planning teams and in progress reviews with battalion and brigade staff in support of the Command's communication strategies with a focus on social media as well as usarec.army.mil support and content development.
  • Provides or coordinates for social media coverage of major communication events and efforts using social media platforms.
  • Researches new and innovative tools, programs, systems, software, services and social media industry trends to maintain currency and relevance with social media strategies.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying modern industry techniques to create engaging effective multimedia content for use on various social media platforms such as Spredfast, Hootsuite, Buffer, Likeable Hub or Social Pilot; Utilizing the three major social media disciplines such as Social Listening, Social Analytics and Social Engagement while managing the social media program of a brand, product, individual or organization; and creating multimedia content using a combination of writing, graphic design, photo manipulation, video editing skills and software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Marketing, Advertising or Communications.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

Education

  • This is a Term position, which is a temporary position not to exceed 1 year and may be extended up to 6 years.
  • This position is a Modified Term and can be extended up to 6 years with approval. Employee may be eligible for noncompetitive conversion to a Career-Conditional Appointment or Career Appointment under Merit Promotion procedures and in accordance with Section 9902(b(2) of title 5, USC. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent.
