Summary

The position serves as an epidemiologist responsible for carrying out a full range of complex epidemiologic and surveillance activities. Duties

Help

As a Epidemiologist you will:

  • Consult on, monitor, and measure the outcome of assigned programs through studies that evaluate the effectiveness of subject activities.
  • Participate with scientists and program consultants in various aspects of scientific studies or surveys and serve as a technical expert with respect to all phases of statistical interpretation relating to topics under consideration.
  • Work with program specialists and scientists to develop more viable implementation procedures and coordinate with appropriate staff to make needed changes.
  • Plan and carry out quality control programs and select appropriate epidemiologic methods to be used in quality control analysis.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports of national surveys or surveillance system analyses which include discussion of substantive health issues; assessment of the quality of data; and explanation of the methodologies, results, and relevance to health issues.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

Minimum Qualifications GS-12:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience performing analytical studies and interpreting results to coordinate the evaluation of scientific programs, methods, and policies relative to a broad range of reproductive data, surveillance, and statistics.

Minimum Qualifications GS-13:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience analyzing scientific data from national surveys/data systems and carry out a variety of data collection and analytical activities relative to a broad range of reproductive data, surveillance, and statistics.

Education

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
