As a Geophysicist or Geodesist within the Earthquake Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
Provide technical leadership for the operation and development of the SCGN array.
Ensure timely availability of high quality GNSS data (both real-time and daily solutions) for applications and products.
Monitor station state of health, as well as quality of both real-time data streams and their derived products using open source and internally developed tools. Analyze data and derived products for purposes of maintaining GNSS stations and improving deformation results.
Use scripting or programming languages to perform data analysis and monitoring, facilitate live data streaming and archiving, visualize and manipulate GNSS time series in a Linux environment.

This work would have typically involved conventional methods & techniques though it required going beyond clear precedents, and required adapting methods to the problems at hand and interpreting findings in terms of their scientific significance. At this level, Geophysicists have a very good knowledge of the principles of geophysics and their application, and the ability to independently perform scientific work of considerable difficulty.
Geodesist GS-1372-12: Qualification requirements;
Geodesist Degree: geodesy; or 30 semester hours in any combination of geodesy, mathematics, physics, astronomy, engineering science, surveying, geodetic surveying, photogrammetry, or geophysics. The course work must have included differential and integral calculus; OR a combination of education and experience -- at least 30 semester hours in any combination of geodesy, mathematics, physics, astronomy, engineering science, surveying, geodetic surveying, photogrammetry, or geophysics, plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study.
