-Prepares comprehensive research, analyzes and evaluates current legislation and legislative proposals and will support the agency's legislative agenda and appropriations requests.
-Attends and monitors Congressional hearings for a representative of USAGM (the Director, CEO, and Senior Advisor) who delivers testimony before Congress, and assists in all aspects of preparation for that hearing by preparing draft documents of pertinent information and data to assist in the report to Congress.
-Provides research on various topics depending on the subject to be investigated.
-Creates opportunity for Congressional engagements by contacting legislative representatives and arranges meetings and conferences on various topics.
-Meets with Congressional staff about the USAGM, VOA, and the other media entities under the USAGM umbrella to provide information about USAGM's programs.
-In coordination with USAGM Public Affairs, engages with think tanks, public policy organizations, advocacy groups and diaspora organizations that work with Congressional stakeholders on public diplomacy.
-Provides expert knowledge and skill in providing information about USAGM and its media entities to external offices of USAGM.
-Serves as the Point of Contact (POC) for all Congressional inquiries for the office. Reviews and identifies subject and intent of Congressional inquiries received, prepares and initiates responses. Prepares thorough and detailed responses to written inquiries and constituent requests; including letters, information packets, and briefing materials.

Qualifications
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level which is directly related to this line of work.
For the GS-12 level: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of such experience include serving as a legislative assistant, legislative director or equivalent position in a Senator or in a Congressman's office or for a Congressional Committee, where duties included preparing briefing materials and attending meetings with and on behalf of the Member of Congress; coordinating responses to inquiries from members of the legislative branch; and other substantial work products.
For the GS-13 level: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Examples of such experience include serving as a legislative assistant, legislative director or equivalent position in a Senator or in a Congressman's office or for a Congressional Committee with oversight of appropriations, foreign relations, or defense, where duties included managing a legislative portfolio; preparing briefing materials and attending meetings with and on behalf of the Member of Congress; drafting legislation and gathering Congressional support for that legislation; traveling with Congressional delegations to foreign countries building support coalitions within the Congress or externally to support initiatives and goals; and other substantial work products.
Proficiency in Spanish or Arabic is desired but not required.
