Duties

Help

The incumbent of this position will conduct radio-frequency (RF) pump-probe research in a custom-built ultrafast electron microscope system, to stroboscopically image standing and traveling waves at gigahertz frequencies with high spatial and temporal resolution. Research to characterize loss signatures of the RF pump circuit.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  1. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.

In addition to the Basic Requirement, applicants must meet one of the following:

Specialized Experience:

One year of specialized experience at the GS-09 (ZP-II at NIST), Specialized experience is defined as experience with dynamic electron microscopy,  radio-frequency holder design and stroboscopic transmission electron microscopy.

OR

A Masters or Equivalent Graduate Degree

OR

A Combination of qualifying experience and education.

This position is covered by an Alternative Personnel Management System (APMS). This system replaces the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and grade with career paths and pay bands. For information regarding how the pay bands correspond to the General Schedule, click here.
