This position is established as a Work and Family Life (WFL) Specialist. The primary purpose of this position is to plan, implement, administer and counsel eligible personnel on various WFL issues and provide information and referral services at Naval Base Ventura County. Incumbent serves as a consultant and instructor on a variety of WFL Topics and issues. Provides informative and tangible advice, assistance, and instruction to address customer concerns, needs and requirements associated with Navy-life (deployment/separation; frequent relocation, transiting from military to civilian life, etc.) gathers data, complies statistics, reports progress and makes recommendations to the supervisor on program planning, agency coordination and follow-up procedures for use at installation, regional and DoD levels. Works independently and/or with other FFSC staff to provide guidance and training to deliver course curricula and prepare accompanying resource materials. Develops, coordinates, conducts and evaluates workshops, seminars, general military training, etc., for customers within specific areas of responsibility (i.e. Career and Transition Support, Deployment Support, personal Financial Management, Relocation Assistance, Information and Referral, etc.). Identifies and develops local networks with Military and community agencies and enhance program delivery to ensure local services are adjusted to accommodate identified trends/issues. Prepares and assists in informative. instructional presentations, correspondence and binding agreements such as memoranda of understanding to formalize agreements and roles. Personal Financial Management: Assists or facilitates resources to assist customers with personal financial planning, money management, developing short-and long term strategies, to include consumer affair issues through a range of seminars, workshops, lectures, articles and internet resources. Provides information on a variety of financial topics such as military pay system; banking; credit; budget development; financial record keeping; debt; consumer rights and obligations under Federal and State consumer protection laws; local consumer information; car buying; insurance; savings; investments, etc. oversees the Command Financial Specialist (CFS) program. Provides training and serves as a consultant to CFSs when desired. Assists in developing CFS course curricula, prepares accompanying resource materials. Conducts command and unit leader training and briefings to assist supervisory personnel in recognizing financial problems experienced by military families and in making appropriate referrals for assistance.
