Duties

Help

As an Archives Technician, GS-1421-04, your work assignments may include the following under supervision:

  • Uses a telephone operated by an automated distribution system, and other basic office equipment.
  • Obtains location of records using various databases to reply to customer inquiries. Reviews customer responses to requests and documents issues and findings. Determines and implements the appropriate course of customer service action.
  • Answers customer requests via telephone, e-mail, fax, and mail. References applicable procedures in furnishing the customer response. Provides guidance to the customer regarding the additional information needed for future action.
  • Addresses customer concerns regarding the releasability of requested information by applying knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and procedures regarding disclosure of personnel and medical information (e.g., Freedom of Information Act, Privacy Act, restrictions imposed by the military services).
  • Uses a personal computer to type a variety of e-mails, correspondence, forms and other materials in responding to customer inquiries.

Qualifications

GS-04 - Candidates must have had one (1) year of general experience. General Experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work which shows that you have the ability to obtain the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

Education may be substituted for experience, GS-4: Successful completion of two years of education above the high school level, OR an associate degree from an accredited institution.

Combination of Experience and Education: You may use a combination of your post-high school education from an accredited educational institution and experience to meet the total experience requirements of the GS-4 level.
