Duties

Help

The OMB Student Internship Program is a program in which graduate (post-baccalaureate) students gain knowledge and experience in the organization. Assignments may include research, analysis, statistics, and coordination of briefing books, report preparation, meeting and conference planning, letter writing, and covering meetings, hearings, administrative operations, and/or legislative markup sessions.

Internships are available for any division in the agency.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the qualification requirements outlined below to be considered minimally qualified for this position. The qualification requirements are in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standards. (All qualifications must be met by the date of appointment).

You may qualify at the GS-07 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:

A. Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (as evidenced by (1) class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; or (2) 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for all academic work; or (3) grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in the major field of study; or (4) election to membership in a national honor scholastic society);

OR

B. Must have completed of one full academic year of graduate level education;

AND

C. Must be accepted or enrolled at an accredited graduate school in pursuit of an advanced degree (Beginning the program by September 2, 2019).

(Applicable to the GS-7 only)

SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: Must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. S.A.A. is based on (1) Class standing-applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class, based on completed courses; or (2) Grade-Point Average-applicants must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (3) Election to membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society - membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision.

NOTE: Applicants who are referred to the hiring office for selection consideration will be required to complete a writing sample and/or other writing exercise as part of the interview/selection process. If the hiring office decides to request a writing sample and/or other writing exercise as part of its selection process, a designated Agency representative will contact you to: (1) inform you of this requirement; and (2) provide further instructions.

Education

ARE YOU USING YOUR EDUCATION TO QUALIFY? You MUST provide transcripts or other documentation to support your educational claims. Unless otherwise stated: (1) official or unofficial transcripts are acceptable, or (2) you may submit a list with all of your courses, grades, semester, year, and credit for the course. All materials must be submitted by the closing date of the announcement.

PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

You will be in a trial period throughout your entire Pathways Internship appointment. If selected by management, you are required to complete a Declaration for Federal Employment (OF-306) to determine your suitability for federal employment and to authorize a background investigation.

This is an Excepted Service appointment. As a part of the Pathways Internship Program, the appointment may be extended until the selectee's educational program requirements have been completed. You may be converted, without a break in service to a term (time-limited) or permanent appointment upon graduation and completion of program requirements but there is no guarantee.

If you are claiming 10-point veterans' preference, you must also submit an SF-15, "Application for 10-Point Veterans' Preference" plus the proof required by that form. You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
