As a Mathematical Statistician, you will:
- Advise program staff on developing methods and selecting techniques to conduct methodological research to improve sample surveys or experimental designs; to conduct evaluations of data collection, reduction, processing, protocol design, sample size, and analysis of methodologies and results.
- Evaluate the methodology used in specified energy related program studies to ensure the results are valid and reliable. Makes recommendations to senior officials on interpreting multiple, conflicting, or incomplete data and advises on technical issues central to initiating new statistical programs or major revisions to current statistical programs.
- Design and develop mathematical statistical models, methods, and/or techniques such as sample and survey designs for related data collection. Monitors and maintains center standards regarding survey design and methodology.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.

For the GS-13, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Experience includes advanced scientific analytical techniques to adapt procedures, extend and synthesize existing theories and techniques for unrelated purposes, or to isolate and define critical features of difficult technical problems; experience applying technical expertise to a variety of mathematical and statistical principles and techniques such as probability theory, estimation, inference, quality control, acceptance sampling, sequential and other sampling plans, experimental design and data reduction to a myriad of complex situations and problems.
Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
