The Birmingham Veteran Affairs Medical Center (BVAMC) is seeking one (1) full-time permanent Psychiatrist for the Mental Health Service Line Team at the Huntsville CBOC with the Birmingham VA Medical Center .This Psychiatrist will coordinate and function as part of a multidisciplinary team providing outpatient mental health care to Veterans.
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: 49-54 days paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days' sick leave, 10 federal holidays). The primary duties of this position will include screening, assessment, diagnosing and treatment of Veterans with acute and chronic psychiatric disorders according to standard and usual and acceptable methods and techniques. This Psychiatrist will observe behaviors and reaction patterns to modify treatment plans and medications for mental health Veterans. This Psychiatrist will be expected to work independently and make appropriate referrals to the community or other professional resources, as needed. This Psychiatrist will lead interdisciplinary team members and provide clinical services to the Veterans. Birmingham VA Medical Center is a teaching affiliate with UAB and nurse practitioner collaboration and trainee supervision may be required.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM or 4 day 10 hour shifts.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2019 and all subsequent cut off dates. Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Preference may be given to candidates who are board certified in his/her specialty and have leadership experience with large, high-complexity group practice management. Previous VHA experience is preferred. Preferred characteristics identified are based on specialty training and knowledge needed based on the location and function of the assignment. Applicants should be qualified to receive an academic position at our affiliate, University of Alabama (UAB), at the Associate or Full Professor Level.
