Duties

Help

As a Clerk (Office Automation), you will:

•Assign claim numbers and maintains claim number log in spreadsheet format.
•Utilize spreadsheets to assign and maintain control of all permit numbers for applications received in the unit.
•Utilize spreadsheets to track export documents and verifications for exportation.
•Utilize available computer software (including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and graphics) in preparing memoranda, letters, reports, charts, forms and other material from rough drafts, oral instructions and handwritten notes.
•Serve as a consultant and reference source to other clerks in answering questions encountered in their work.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the GS-5, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience is performing clerical duties and following procedures, examples of such experience could include:
-Utilizing computer systems to enter data of records and preparing reports; OR
-Reviewing files or documents for completeness, accuracy and compliance with guidelines.
 

OR
You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: four (4) years of education above the high school level. (Please attach copy of transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit.)

OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.

Rating: Your application will be evaluated in the following areas: Technical, Organizational Awareness, Clerical and Communication. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three quality level categories, A, B, or C depending on your responses to the online questions, regarding your experience, education, and training related to this position. Your rating may be lowered if your responses to the online questions are not supported by the education and/or experience described in your application.
