Summary

The Office of Audits (OA), duty location Headquarters, Washington, DC. conducts independent and objective audits, performance evaluations, and other reviews of NASA and contractor programs and projects to improve Agency operations. In addition, OA performs reviews of specific management issues, comments on NASA policies, and is responsible for oversight of NASA audits performed under contract or by other Federal agencies.

Duties

Help
  • The Assistant Inspector General for Auditing (AIGA) works under the general direction of the Deputy Inspector General and is responsible for the functional development and implementation of audit activities.
  • Leads a multi-disciplined staff in performing audits and reviews of NASA programs and operations to promote economy and efficiency, and to prevent or detect fraud, waste, or abuse. Manages and directs the preparation of reports and written products.
  • Reviews existing and proposed legislation and regulations relating to programs carried out or financed by NASA in order to assess their impact of the economy and efficiency of Agency operations.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other Federal agencies, state and local governments or non-government organizations, concerning audit activities that affect NASA programs.
  • Assures compliance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards and NASA OIG audit policies and procedures.

Qualifications

To qualify, candidates must have the skill and ability to perform the duties described above as demonstrated by progressively responsible supervisory/managerial experience, normally with several years at the GS-15 level or equivalent, which demonstrates clearly the ability to manage people and resources.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Expertise in developing and implementing an oversight program to promote the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of major Federal programs and operations.
2. Extensive experience in directing and managing a functionally diverse and geographically dispersed staff.
3. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing in order to provide expert advice and assistance to senior level officials both within and outside the organization.
