    This position of WRITER-EDITOR starts at a salary of $96,970.00 GS-13 grade level, step 01, with promotion potential to $126,062.00 GS-13 grade level, step 10.

    • The responsibilities described are for the full performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence, and limited complexity.
    • Serve as an expert writer-editor within the Plain Language Division of the Office of Public Affairs (OPA) by editing documents, recommending revisions to improve coherence, flow, clarity, and consistency in overall message.
    • Write and edit training materials for the Plain Language Program.
    • Collaborate with program offices and directorates on complex policies and issues to create materials that are useful and clear as well as negotiate with authors and subject matter experts to agree on legally-sufficient plain language solutions.
    • Analyze complex regulations, rules, and policy documents and translate them into plain language so that a general audience can easily find, understand, and use the information.
    • Apply federal plain language guidelines to organize information, make writing more concise, and designed for reading, and edit for Associated Press (AP) Style and other applicable style guidelines.
    • Write speeches and draft talking points for USCIS senior leadership.
