Student Pathways Program: This is a Student Internship opportunity that provides students enrolled in a qualifying educational institution with paid opportunities to work in Federal agencies while completing their education. If selected you will be required to work a minimum of 25 hours per week, but may be able to work full-time if your class schedule allows. If this is your first appointment in the Federal service, your pay will be set at Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.
Upon successful completion of the program, students MAY be non-competitively converted to a term or permanent position within 120 days of completion of the degree/program requirements; however, conversion is not guaranteed. To be eligible for conversion, you must:
- Successfully complete the academic course of study with a GPA of at least 2.5;
- Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience before completing degree requirements;
- Meet the minimum qualification requirements for the position; and
- Maintain acceptable performance.
As a Student Trainee (Management & Program Analyst), typical work assignments may include the following:
The full performance level for this position to which the selectee may be converted is GS-343-12. Progression from the entry-level to the full-performance level will depend on successful completion of all requirements for promotion.
Qualification Requirements: In addition to the program requirements listed above, candidates must meet the minimum education or experience requirements for the position.
GS-5:
A. One year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-4 Federal grade level preparing, editing, and formatting correspondence and providing management support for various administrative processes; or
B. Successful completion of 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university; or
C. A combination of specialized experience described in letter A above and qualifying post high school education described in letter B above. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours beyond the second year) is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
NOTE: An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skill and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
