Summary

Assists in planning organizing, and conducting research projects involving the compilation, evaluation, and interpretation of geographical and statistical information on regions, metropolitan areas, and locales within the scope of work assigned.
Tabulates and prepares data obtained from internal and external files for use in analyzing population patterns and ways of representing them.
Assists in reviewing official demographic and geographic data for trends, internal consistency, and relationship to project activities.
Prepares files and maps using GIS software to identify potential data production flaws, provides assistance on developing and implementing quality assurance plans for structure points, geocoding, and geospatial data update operations.
Prepares memoranda and assists in preparation of reports on delineation and uses of statistical areas.

This is a Temporary Appointment, initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 1 year. This appointment may be extended an additional year at management’s discretion.

Qualifications
Minimum Education Requirement:
Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the basic entry requirements, you must meet the specialized experience outlined below.
AND
Specialized Experience: For the GG-07, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes using geographic concepts, familiarity with geography and geographic products. Examples of such work include: performing geographic operations related to geocoding and/or geospatial updates; writing or updating technical documents; working with a group to develop mutually agreeable requirements for a project and/or product; developing products with and/or using ArcGIS and/or other GIS software; awareness of aerial/satellite imagery and/or global positioning systems (GPS); handling multiple projects simultaneously; and collecting and/or reviewing geospatial data from various sources.
OR
Education: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.
For the GG-09, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes performing geographic operations related to geocoding and/or geospatial updates. Examples of such work include: using geographic concepts, familiarity with geography and geographic products; collecting and/or reviewing geospatial data from various sources; writing or updating technical documents; working with stakeholders to develop mutually agreeable requirements for a project and/or software; writing and/or updating technical requirements or documents; developing and/or implementing quality assurance plans; managing technical projects, either independently or as part of a team and handling multiple projects simultaneously; application of geographical terminology, procedures, and standards to assigned projects; working with aerial/satellite imagery and/or global positioning systems (GPS); and developing products with and/or using ArcGIS and/or other GIS software.
OR
Education: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
