Duties

Help

As the Supervisory Auditor (Deputy Assistant Inspector General) for the Office of Audit and Evaluation you will:

  • Perform the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Plan, schedule, and assign work to subordinates. Establish guidelines and performance expectations for staff members; provides feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Provide advice, counsel, and/or instruction to staff members.
  • Recommend or approve appointments, selections, or reassignments to positions appropriate to the selection authority delegated. Effect disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Carry out Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and program activities.
  • Assess the performance of government organizations, programs, activities, or functions. Perform or assist in the systematic examination and appraisal of the economy and efficiency of agency operations, effectiveness in achieving program results, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and the adequacy of reporting.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and management practices in areas such as program objectives; program results; factors impacting performance; the adequacy of management controls; and/or the validity and reliability of program reporting.

This position is designated as High Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.

You must meet time in grade requirements no later than 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard. Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.") -OR-

B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:

  1. Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;
  2. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or
  3. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.

To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.You MUST provide transcripts or other documentation to support your educational claims. In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal sector with specialized experience in ALL of the following areas:

  • managing an audit organization and its resources, setting goals, plans and objectives, and evaluating effectiveness of managed programs; establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external management officials, and representing an agency to promote an agency's goals and resolving significant technical audit matters; and leading and managing people.
