Help

  • Evaluate pesticide and integrated pest management impacts on Service resources
  • Assess field conditions and situations to determine appropriate chemical and non-chemical control methods on invasive species
  • Perform invasive species inventory and monitoring methods
  • Implement policies on the detection, prevention, control and eradication of invasive species and diseases
  • Plan and implement the use of herbicides to control invasive and noxious plants for habitat management

Qualifications

Only experience and education obtained by March 5, 2019 will be considered.

You may qualify at the GS-05 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:

A. Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: assisting others in the collection of vegetation data, chemical use data, applying plant control and revegetation techniques and field investigations, OR

B. Completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled. (If you are using education to qualify, you must provide a copy of your official transcripts.), OR

C. Possess a combination of qualifying specialized experience and education.

Promotion Potential: This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed represent the full performance level of GS-0401-09. At lower grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-0401-09. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.The selectee may be promoted without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

The Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA),P.L. 114-47, allows certain individuals who currently or formerly were under time-limited competitive appointments at certain land management agencies to compete under merit promotion procedures:

Education

PROOF OF EDUCATION: All applicants who are using education or a combination of education and experience to qualify must submit copies of official or unofficial transcripts which include grades, credit hours earned, major(s) and grade point average or class ranking. If any required coursework is not easily recognizable on transcripts, or if you believe a portion of a particular course can be credited toward meeting an educational requirement, you must also provide a memorandum on letterhead from the institution's registrar, dean, or other appropriate official stating the percentage of the course that should be considered to meet the requirement and the equivalent number of units. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable; however, if you are selected for the position, you will be required to produce the original official transcripts.

PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

Physical Demands: May require strenuous physical activity including periods of standing, sitting while driving vehicles, walking through wetlands, climbing on and off boats, and lifting and carrying heavy objects. Some activities will occur in dangerous areas or settings.

Work Environment: Most work is performed outdoors in all types of weather. Assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas while enduring extreme temperature, quick-changing weather, and biting/stinging insects. Harmful wildlife may be encountered in the performance of outdoor work.

Knowledge of the principles of integrated pest management (IPM) and a broad knowledge of biological, botanical and range management disciplines as related to plant, wildlife, and natural habitat management, plant ecology and science, plant population dynamics, invasive species prevention, control and eradication strategies and methodologies, including chemical, mechanical, cultural and biological control
  2. Knowledge of principles & practices of ecology, wildlife, invasive species, and resource management
  3. Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to habitat restoration and management
  4. Knowledge of global position system and geographic information system hardware and software
  5. Skill in leading a crew in performing work in a variety of field situations
  6. Ability to communicate orally and in writing with fellow employees, other agency (or equivalent) representatives, scientific community and the public
