    Salary: $81,548 (Step 01) to $106,012 (Step 10);

    As a Research Geologist within the Florence Bascom Geoscience Center, some of your specific duties will include:

    • Formulating and conducting research based on field geologic mapping and sampling on the geologic framework of crystalline bedrock of eastern North America.
    • Applying the principles of structural geology, metamorphic and igneous petrology, geochemistry, and geochronology to bedrock mapping to understand and describe the geologic evolution of complexly deformed polymetamorphic rocks.
    • Publishing digital bedrock geologic maps and GIS databases as USGS Scientific Investigation Maps and Open-File Reports at 1:24,000 to 1:100,000 scale in eastern North America.
    • Generating definitive studies as maps, databases and reports of tectonics, hydrogeology, mineral resources, or geologic hazards associated with the bedrock of eastern North America.
    • Collaborating with other scientists in interdisciplinary research on topics of priority to the USGS mission by attending project and team meetings, contributing expert opinion, conducting peer reviews, and presenting results at professional conferences.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Approximately 10 nights each month.
