Summary

This position is located in the DoD OIG, Mission Support Team (MST), Data Analytics Team. This is a Data Scientist (Mathematical Statistician) responsible for leading and supervising data scientists providing timely, technical advice with respect to applied data science and mathematical and statistical analyses that solve critical problems, promote program integrity, and detect fraud, waste, and abuse. Duties

Help

  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Required urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment and subject to random drug testing thereafter.
  • Drug testing is not required for DoD civilian employees moving by transfer or reassignment from one DoD Testing Designated Position to another with no break in service.
  • If you have not previously successfully completed a probationary period with the federal government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.
  • A one-year supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: A degree that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics, OR a combination of education and experience that includes at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Note: Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement must have included at least four of the following: differential calculus, integral calculus, advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite. Courses in mathematical statistics or probability theory with a prerequisite of elementary calculus or more advanced courses will be accepted toward meeting the mathematics requirements, with the provision that the same course cannot be counted toward both the mathematics and the statistics requirement.

Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-14 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: supervising a technical team to include setting expectations, assigning workloads, and conducting performance evaluations; applying statistical and mathematical modeling techniques to studies, investigations, or audits; training executive leadership in the understanding and application of data analytics; and program/project leadership to include responsibility for cost, schedule, and performance involving government contracts.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
