Duties

Help

As an Investigative Attorney, you will:

- Assist the Executive Director and the Deputy Director in planning, conducting, and leading reviews and special projects.
- Lead and conduct investigations and address matters involving possible violations of laws and regulations of federal law, including assessing the extent of compliance with government and agency rules and regulations, assessing program support effectiveness and efficiencies, and identifying systemic weaknesses.
- Develop detailed plans, goals and objectives for short and long-range implementation and administration of a variety of investigative activities, including as directed by the IG, Deputy IG, AIGs, Executive Director or Deputy Director.
- Collect, sort, and analyze information from a variety of sources in order to evaluate relevancy and adequacy of facts, and to develop and implement recommended courses of action relating to matters which are the subject of the investigations and reviews being conducted by the Office.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Be a current member of a bar with a valid license to practice law in a state or territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Specialized experience: For the GS-15 level, you must have four (4) or more years of post-J.D. legal experience, two of which were specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-14 grade level.

Specialized experience is assisting with planning, directing, and executing multifaceted investigative, analytical, and legal reviews.

Examples of such experience could include:
Representing entities or Federal agencies in regulatory enforcement matters or litigation; OR
Conducting investigations and making presentations about the subject matter to various audiences; OR
Providing independent legal advice and guidance on a wide range of agency programmatic responsibilities; OR
Serving as liaison with high-level Federal or other entity program officials.

Education Requirements:

Must be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association at the time of graduation (a copy of your transcript will be required if selected).

A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A two year trial period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Public Trust – Background Investigation will be required.
