Duties

Help

As a GS-9 Auditor, the individual serves as a team member on an assigned evaluation/review, assisting senior members in carrying out the activities involved in performance and financial reviews/evaluations of DOJ programs and activities. Specific responsibilities include:

· Helping conduct evaluation and review surveys and assisting in preparation of survey and verification programs. The Auditor may conduct reviews of small programs or activities of limited scope. The incumbent performs research, conducts interviews, and analyzes documentation. On larger reviews, the Auditor assists senior members with all of these activities by gathering and analyzing data and making recommendations based on that analysis.
· Composing work papers and summaries for reviews, performing data analysis, and developing draft finding sheets that clearly identify the logic flow. The Auditor submits all work to the electronic work system so that it can be used and reviewed by supervisors and other team members.

As a GS-11 Auditor, the incumbent serves as a fully functioning member of a review team and participates in the full range of duties to support evaluation engagement execution, including responsibility for engagement stages through design, data collection and analysis, message development, and drafting segments of products that are technically complete and appropriately targeted to the audience. Specific responsibilities include:
· Providing ideas about possible review topics in keeping with the DOJ and the OIG's strategic plan. Participating in the proposal planning and helping to develop the review objectives and the questions that the review is expected to answer. Helping to lay out the framework of the review, such as methodology, time frame, and benefits of the audit to provide higher-level managers appropriate logic for authorizing the review.
· Participating in developing the more detailed review guide, developing the steps for a particular portion of the review. In addition, the employee does survey work, looking at the broad picture to be studied as well as the specifics of the particular program. The Auditor determines which issues need further study/research/pursuit.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses.

Qualifications

In addition to to the below, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:

Be an AmeriCorps VISTA Alumni with a Certification of Service letter following the completion of their 12-month assignment. You have 1 year from the time that you have completed your program to apply for federal positions.

Be a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCVs) who have successfully completed their service are granted one year from the completion date of service to apply for federal appointments, with a valid Description of Service document (DOS).

Be a Peace Corps staff member who have successfully completed 36 mths of continuous service without a break in service of three days or more may apply for federal positions with a valid DOS within 3 years from the separation date from Peace Corps.


In addition to meeting the Peace Corps/AmeriCorps eligibility requirements listed above, you must meet the qualification requirements for this position listed below.

GS 9: One year of specialized experience at least equivalent to a GS-7 Auditor position which is in or directly related to auditing and program evaluation or assessment which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples include applying routine and conventional audit techniques to complete fundamental and relatively basic audits or portions of more in-depth audits; and reviewing and examining a variety of audit records to determine compliance OR
Have two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree OR
Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education as defined above which equals 100%. For example, 12 months of specialized experience and one year of graduate level education AND in addition to one of the above have one of the below:

A. Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credits in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard. Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.")
OR
B. Combination of education and experience--at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following: 1. Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; 2. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or 3. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial coursework in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that(a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.


GS 11: One year of specialized experience at least equivalent to a GS-09 Auditor position which is in or directly related to auditing and program evaluation or assessment which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples may include planning conducting and reporting findings, data collection, organizing, planning, directing, and reviewing the work of team members, conducting research and interviews OR

Have three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education as defined above which equals 100%. For example, 12 months of specialized experience and one year of graduate level education AND in addition to one of the above have one of the below
A. Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credits in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard.
