Summary

- Work Leader provides support and assistance to Food Service and Cook Supervisors. Consults with supervisors about daily plans, and communicates instructions to employees.
- Open and/or closes main kitchen according to security procedures.
- Ensures tray line is properly set up without delay in service. Initiates start of tray line and/or dining room service in a timely manner and ensures completion.
- Performs Food Service Worker duties, i.e. assembling or serving food in dining room or on patient/resident tray line, delivering patient/resident trays, cleaning and sanitizing dishware and/or pots and pans, preparing sandwiches, salads, etc.
- Ensures all areas of responsibility are clean and orderly. Assures proper food handling techniques and good personal hygiene is used according to guidelines. Knows how to follow recipes and combine ingredients for complex snacks, salads, and sandwiches.
- Approves/disapproves emergency leave in absence of supervisor. Coordinates coverage for unscheduled sick leave, emergency annual leave, etc. In absence of cook supervisor, may provide guidance to cooks to ensure duties are carried out.
- Utilizes diet software package reports to monitor patient admissions, discharges, - transfers, and food preferences.
- Processes diet patterns, supplemental feedings, standing orders, tube feedings and food preferences based on provider orders.
- Follows work flow for Communication Center making required adjustments to tickets based on diet and additional diet orders. Inserts tickets for those patients/residents who are returned to a "feed" status.
- Provides prep areas with production sheets, supplemental feedings and tube feedings order changes. Collects data for food intake studies/calorie counts of individual patients/residents with special nutritional problems by accurately determining and recording amounts of food served and consumed.
Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 11am to 7:30pm or 11:30am to 8pm or rotating shift for coverage. Weekends and holidays required. Days off will vary depending on needs of service. Position Description Title/PD#: /00731A

Qualifications

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Working in Food Service requires physical effort for lifting and moving of objects. Other physical effort requires constant standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling. Position may require occasional desk work requiring sitting for long periods of time.
The employee may be subject to extreme cold temperatures, working in the refrigerators and freezers. Protective clothing is provided. Some work is performed in the kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing cause uncomfortable high temperatures and humidity.
The work area is well lighted but usually noisy from food service activities. There is a danger from slipping on floors where food and beverages have been dropped. Food service workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, and hot working surfaces. Incumbent work is subject to cuts, strains and falls.
The incumbent works under pressure with frequent interruptions and pressure of completing assignments with a close time schedule. Works both AM and PM Shifts which is subject to rotate based on staffing needs.
