This position is located in the Environmental Management Service (EMS), of the Orlando Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, Orlando Florida (Lake Nona).

  • The incumbent's duties include sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, waxing or polishing floors, clean and sanitize restrooms, removal of soiled linen, empty trash cans and hazardous waste moving them to the assigned disposal area.
  • Operate powered cleaning equipment such as buffers, carpet cleaning, vacuum cleaners and scrubbing machines and perform routine maintenance on cleaning equipment changing filters, brushes and vacuum cleaner bags.
  • The incumbent will be familiar with a full variety of cleaning supplies, dilution ratios and is responsible for their proper use.
  • The incumbent is required to perform moderate lifting up to 50 pounds and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • The incumbent will work effectively as a team member.
  • The incumbent will respond to requests and will be courteous to staff, patients and visitors.
Work schedule: Varied shifts to include evenings, nights, and weekends.

The selectee may be required to work or travel between any of the locations within Corporate Orlando. The selectee may also be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis, based on patient care needs.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C.118C (www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c). Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors; cleaning surfaces such as light fixtures, venetian blinds, and counter tops; and cleaning restroom facilities including toilets, baths, and sinks.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 and 2 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is; Ability to do the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 pounds and over), heavy carrying (45 pounds and over), straight pulling, pulling hand over hand (8 hours), pushing (8 hours), reaching above shoulder, both hands required, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending; climbing (legs only), both legs required, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades of colors, hearing without aid, emotional stability.

Note: Employees on an Intermittent schedule may not be eligible to receive all fringe benefits provided to full-time federal civilian employees. Intermittent employees are not eligible for dental, vision, or Federal Government Life Insurance programs. Intermittent employees are not eligible for leave (annual or sick) or other types of premium pay (Holiday pay, shift differential, or overtime).
