Summary

About the Position: Serves as a Food Service Worker within the Nutrition Care Division located at Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC), performing a variety of duties such as, assembling and delivering patient trays to Inpatient Nutrition Services. Prepares a variety of cold and simple hot foods, always using established safe food handling procedures, labels and stores food properly, and complies with Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) guidelines.

Duties

Help
  • Pick up trays, unloading and Pick up trays, stacks dishes and utensils for washing, cleans and readies cart for next meal.
  • Assembles patient trays in a manner that makes them appealing to patients.
  • Interprets diet orders and verifies patients' diet order.
  • Cooks or re-heats a variety of simple hot foods that require grilling, and use of the oven or microwave cooking.
  • Provide patients with basic dietary information.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition to ensure compliance with safe food handling procedures and HACCP guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Food Service Worker without more than normal supervision I have the ability to perform normal Food Service Worker duties preparing a variety of cold foods such as sandwiches, salads, desserts, and beverages. Performing all aspects of patient tray assembly. Properly portioning food items and beverages. I can assemble patient trays in a manner that makes them appealing to patients. Prepare attractive garnishes for patient trays. Pick up trays following meal completion schedule, unloads and scrapes trays, stacks dishes and utensils for washing, and cleans and readies cart for next meal. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work involves prolonged periods of standing and walking and frequent stooping, bending, reaching, pulling and pushing. Regularly lifts and moves objects weighing up to forty pounds with some occasional lifting of heavier items with assistance. Regularly pushes food carts weighing 45 pounds.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: The area is generally well lighted however is considered hot as is typical of kitchen areas in which ovens and steam constantly produce heat and humidity. The area is frequently noisy with exposure to burns, cuts, bruises, scrapes or broken bones resulting from falls or slips on wet surface, hot liquids, foods or cooking surfaces, equipment or utensils. The employee follows prescribed safety procedures and is required to wear safety shoes. Regularly pushes food carts weighing 45 pounds.
