Duties

Help

  • Apply knowledge of special procedures in preparing food and serving patients.
  • Weigh, measure, and assemble ingredients according to standardized recipes.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of foods in compliance with safety, health, and sanitation requirements.
  • Serve the appropriate foods according to individual tray tickets and the daily menu.
  • Read and interpret a regular or modified food menu, individual diet card, or a unique patient selection.
  • Decide what food items to serve for the most common diets when the diet card identifies only the kind of diet called for and not specific items.
  • Identify obvious discrepancies between the prescribed diets and the food items designated by the menu if applicable.
  • Select and place food items on a meal tray or plate and place items on the tray in accordance to an established template.
  • Maintain proper food temperature of foods according to established procedures.
  • Report patient's comments and complaints to the supervisor or dietitian.
  • Report any untouched patient food tray.
  • Break down and clean assigned areas.
  • Clean and restock the food cart upon return.
  • Unload carts and scrape trays, stacks dishes, and utensils for washing.
  • Operate continuous conveyor belt mechanism dishwasher.
  • Maintain kitchen in clean and orderly condition, sweeps and mops floors, washes shelves, tables, sinks, refrigerators, etc.
Work Schedule: Part Time (20hrs/week), Shift to be discussed at interview.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Food service workers perform work requiring light to moderate physical effort. They are subject to continuous standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. They frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) unassisted (e.g. pushing small carts of dirty dishes) and occasionally lift or move objects weighing more than 9 kilograms (20 pounds) (e.g. filling beverage dispensers) with the assistance of other workers.

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
