Summary

These positions are located in Nutrition and Food Services at the VA Medical Center in White City, Oregon. The primary purpose of this position is to perform food-service tasks per established criteria for meeting the nutritional needs of the inpatient residents of the medical center. This position performs tasks consisting of several steps and/or tasks that require adherence to standard operating procedures as well as local and VA policies.

Duties

Help

NOTE: This is a part-time position (15 hours/week). Benefits and time-off accrual will be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Portions food into serving dishes, ensures proper portion size and sanitation;
  • Assists or performs advanced food preparation, involving simple sandwiches and salads;
  • Serves food during meals, ensures proper portion size and adheres to policies and dietetic guidelines;
  • Performs regularly assigned tasks associated with setting up, serving and cleaning up after meal service;
  • Assists with production and delivery of trays to be sent to patients outside of the dining hall;
  • Performs cleaning tasks associated with food preparation and meal service; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Part Time, 3 hours per day, 15 hours per week. Varied Shifts and Times.

Qualifications

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The work performed requires regularly applying a normal range of motion (i.e. bending, stretching, reaching, squatting, kneeling, etc.). Requires ability to perform constant, repetitive lifting of up to 3 pounds from the shoulder. Requires ability to stand and/or walk for 3 plus hours. Requires ability to exert pushing force of up to 50 pounds. Requires ability to occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds. Requires ability to frequently lift/carry up to 30 pounds. Requires ability to regularly lift/carry up to 20 pounds. Work is subject to some pressure to complete assignments with close time deadlines. Occasional pushing of food carts to deliver trays to the resident bedside. The work involves incidental exposure to temperature extremes and potential for minor cuts, bruises, burns and scolds. There are hazards of slipping on wet floors and contact with resident with contagious diseases.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
