As an Economist Student Trainee, you will perform a wide variety of analytical duties associated with economics work. Your assignments are designed to encourage professional growth and development, to develop an understanding of agency issues relating to international trade, and to experience a variety of international trade work. You will perform short-and medium-term projects under the direction of higher-graded economists.
You will conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis utilizing a variety of software and tools, such as Stata, Python, R, SAS, MS Excel, or other statistical software. You will perform duties related to statistical surveys, such as tabulation and processing of data, routing and posting from secondary sources, and preparation of simple charts, tables, or graphs. You will analyze data and information related to international trade and import injury investigations. You may conduct literature reviews and other targeted research on international trade issues and topics, including summarizing findings through written products. Your technical competencies will advance through the performance of detailed study planning and the collection, compilation, and cleaning of data from secondary sources (e.g. Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics, World Bank, International Monetary Fund and OECD). You will conduct analytical writing, prepare preliminary interpretive reports and use computer applications in economic research. As a Pathways Intern, you may be rotated to other offices or divisions as needed.
Degree: Economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.

Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
