Duties

Help
  • Operate fuzing, crimping, staking machines, primer presses and tension equipment in sealing compartments into complete items.
  • Examine all munitions and components at assigned workstations to determine degree of serviceability.
  • Check for evidence of excess deterioration, damage, or other defects which render the item unsafe to process or handle in a normal manner.
  • Use simple measuring instruments to set up, test, and operate electrical detonation systems.
  • Exercise constant vigilance to prevent injury or death to co-workers and/or self while preparing materials for burning.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed National Agency Check With Written Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a forklift license.
  • This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program governed by Army Regulation (AR) 600-85 and incumbent will be required to sign a Department of the Army (DA) Form 5019.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility responsibilities and requires successful completion of training in accordance with (IAW) Anniston Army Depots (ANAD's) RCRA permit.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968, which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a DA Form 7281-R Command Oriented Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives Security Screening and Evaluation Record per Army Regulation (AR) 190-11.
  • This position requires the incumbent to meet the requirements of Army Materiel Command-Regulation (AMC-R) 350-4, Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Explosives Operator~ without more than normal supervision. Work on conventional and chemical munitions for assembly/disassembly operations. I can assist in operating equipment such as breakdown crimper, deprimary, modification, and renovation work on conventional and chemical munitions. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision
  • Physical Effort: Incumbent is responsible for shutting off the machine in case of malfunctions. In case of minor stoppage, they may clear or restart the machines. On-the-job assistance is often available from higher grade employees. Employees at this level function with occasional spot checks to assure quality of output. Work requires walking, bending and long periods of standing. Incumbent is required to push and pull items, and frequently lift weights up to 40 pounds. Occasionally may be required to lift weights up to 60 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and on unloading docks with cement floors. There is exposure to weather conditions, dirt, grease and noise from conveyor lines. There is possibility of minor cuts and bruises. Wears such protective clothing as safety shoes, gloves, aprons and goggles if necessary, when sanding. Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling, and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes. There is a possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.).

Additional information

This position is a TERM position. It is temporary and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met and a conversion opportunity exists. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent.
