Duties

Help

The incumbent will be responsible for 1) directing the work of tray line/cafeteria and dishroom operations, 2) leading and setting the example for 10 to 20 WG-02 & WG-04 Food Service Worker employees, 3) work coverage being sufficient in the absence of the Food Service Worker supervisor, 4) opening the main kitchen, doors, unlocking all storage areas secured by the evening shift, 5) assuring tray lines are operating on schedule and that employees are carrying out assigned duties, 6) recording temperatures on all refrigerator units and food items in compliance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point guidelines, 7) filling out daily assignment logs and daily work scheduled, 8) utilizing unscheduled help when short-staffed and having the ability to work in any area of the main kitchen, 9) communicate information from supervisors to employees and vice versa, and 10) provide supervisors information of daily operations and problems.

Work Schedule: Friday through Tuesday 05:00 am to 01:30 pm having Wednesdays & Thursdays off

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: This position requires long periods of standing and walking, lifting, and carrying items weighing up to 45 lbs. Some assignments include pushing, pulling, loading carts, where items can weigh up to 50 lbs. The incumbent is subject to extreme heat, steam, and water splashes at times. Also, burns could occur when working on tray line, due to hot pans and steam tables, or when cooking, due to ovens and other cooking equipment. Noise levels are high, due to machinery. Wet floors and operating equipment require careful movement and handling.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
