Duties

Help

The major duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Checks foods received as to correct amounts according to patient census and modified diets, reports overages/shortages to supervisor.
  • Oversees the work of lower-grade food service workers.
  • Has knowledge of all modified diets.
  • Sets up serving stations with necessary food and beverage items, dishes, flatware, and serving utensils.
  • Maintains pace of trayline to facilitate service of trays during the meal serving period.
  • Interprets and follows printed menus and computerized tray tickets to serve appropriate food items in correct amounts for patients on regular and modified diets.
  • Serves standardized portions of all food items and in correct quantities.
  • Thermalizes patient trays in correct sequence and at appropriate intervals.
  • Checks each tray on every delivery cart to ensure that plates and/or bowls have thermalized properly and takes corrective action, if necessary.
  • After meals have been thermalized, the incumbent checks and supplies hot beverages and/or frozen food items required for each tray.
  • Checks completeness of soiled trays as they are being picked up to ensure that all serving equipment is returned from patients' rooms.
  • Prepares and thermalizes trays for late meal delivery.
  • Process diet changes to ensure newly admitted patients receive trays, discharged patients' trays are removed, transferred patients' trays are relocated and downward texture modifications are enacted timely.
  • Thermalizes and prepares bulk food items for service in dining areas from a cafeteria line.
  • Checks patient trays for accuracy according to printed tray ticket and requests appropriate or missing item from another Food Service Worker on tray-line.
Work Schedule: Rotating tours of duty include 5:30a.m. - 2:00 p.m., 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., or 10:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. and
rotating days off

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Required to be able to lift, push, and/or pull heavy equipment and supplies. Frequently lifting
and moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds and occasionally 45. Must have good physical and mental coordination to keep pace with others
in the work unit. Must be able to climb ladders as required in cleaning and storage of supplies and equipment. Work requires continuous
standing, walking, and bending. Must be able to remain alert at all times while performing assigned duties in order to avoid mistakes and/or
accidental injury to self or others.
Must be able to work under pressure of peak workloads and in accordance with close schedule. Work is performed on slippery floors, in areas
with above and below normal temperatures and around live steam and/or electrical equipment. May be subject to cuts and burns during
performance of normal range of duties.
