Summary

The Physician Supervisor is accountable for the supervision of all Primary Care clinicians assigned to their duty location.

Duties

The Physician Supervisor provides administrative, clinical and programmatic leadership for Primary Care programs to ensure achievement of the clinical, research, and education goals and applicable performance measures. The Lead Physician is accountable for the supervision of all Primary care clinicians assigned to their duty location. This responsibility includes the maintenance of coverage schedules, approval of clinic cancellations (emergent and routine), approval of clinician leave, as well as mid-year and annual reviews of clinician performance and enforcement of any necessary clinician discipline. The Physician Supervisor is required to deliver appropriate communication of department priorities, SOPs and agenda items to clinicians via monthly or more frequent meeting and emails. The Physician supervisor will report to the respective Chief Medical Officer to improve and provide medical care delivery, as well as implement plans for the delivery of outpatient care to Veterans, consistent with the policies and guidelines of the Veterans Health Administration and applicable Joint Commission standards, Additionally, the Physician Supervisor works collaboratively with nursing, business office and other colleagues to establish a climate that promotes optimum patient care. The Physician Supervisor will also service as a practicing physician who is responsible for th overall management of patients enrolled in his/her PACT for healthcare services provided by the Tennessee Valley Health Care System. The incumbent is responsible for administrative tasks associated with clinic operations, provides leadership and direction to support staff assigned to his/her PACT teamlet.

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm or at the needs of the clinic.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2019.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: Supervisory experience of at least one year is preferred.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: The work is largely office based and in a sedentary setting. No manual labor is required above ordinary situations. Incumbent must be capable of using a computer given that all clinical charting is electronic.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of 26 days per leave year (1 day per pay period).
