Duties

Help
  • As the Media Specialist, plans, develops and executes strategic public affairs programs and campaigns to effectively communicate the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and Integrated Delivery System (IDS) story.
  • Initiates, plans, and directs a positive total information program encompassing and using all available media to inform target audiences of the activities, aims, and accomplishments of the MTF, its outlying clinics and its tenant organizations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all media and develop and disseminate information materials to pertinent public through the media relative to the MTF and Integrated Delivery System (IDS) programs, objectives and functions.
  • Serve as managing editor of the MTF electronic newsletter.
  • Serve as Executive Producer of special print and video communications products for the Command; facilitates all areas of content development and production.
  • Author the Public Affairs contribution to the annual MTF command operations report in accordance with joint operations regulations.
  • Plan, develop and execute Public Affairs support for visits of foreign military/dignitaries and VIPs and Distinguished Visitors, including the President, Vice President, members of Congress, senior DOD officials and foreign dignitaries.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position has been designated ?Mission Essential?. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing and disseminating informational materials such as written articles, news releases and speeches; managing informational outlets to include websites, newsletters, and social media; coordinating media events; utilizing knowledge of the public affairs governance to approve and release information, such as: highly sensitive information, classified information, research findings/publications/presentations, etc.; and advising leadership on releasing information to the public.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
