Summary

The purpose of the position is to direct, plan, implement and elevate strategies for conducting external communication outreach and campaigns in support of multiple stakeholders, including federal, state, and/or local government; community-based organizations, schools and other academic institutions, faith-based groups, volunteer and professional organizations, public health policymakers, and the general public to protect the public from communicable and noncommunicable health threats.

Duties

Help

As a Public Affairs Specialist you will:

  • Develop plans for campaigns to disseminate information about organization's programs. Organize campaigns to bring about timely and coordinated use of all facilities and skills available in the organization and in the external community
  • Develop campaign materials including fact sheets, electronic announcements, feature or promotional articles, scripts, and other materials relevant to employee/internal and community/external audiences.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders (staff and Agency leadership) and external/community partners who have a vested interest in the Agency's internal/employee communication program.
  • Evaluate information problems encountered in communicating the organization's programs to internal/employee audiences and external/community groups. Advise on and recommend specific information activities designed to meet these problems.
  • Analyze information needs in terms of the public needs to be met and provide advice on program information problems to program staff.
  • Possess knowledge and skill sufficient for presenting ideas in written materials in new ways that will increase understanding among public with varying levels of comprehension of agency programs and policies, or opposition or indifference to the agency's program objectives.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include planning, implementing, and evaluating community engagement activities; and developing a variety of communication products related to an organization's mission and public impact.
