Summary

You will serve as a EXHIBIT SPECIALIST in the NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE MARINE CORPS of the TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMMAND.

This position has promotion potential to the GS-09 grade. If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

Duties

Help
  • Assist Restoration Section of a museum in restoring macro artifacts.
  • Plan and preform the maintenance of individual products and portions of museum exhibits.
  • Work with the museum team (e.g., the museum Director, Exhibit Manager, Collections Manager, Curator, Educator, Operations Manager) in the development of solutions that pose irregular challenges with regard to exhibit displays.
  • Support Curatorial Section of a museum by fabricating artifact crates.
  • Develop and use technical diagrams to determine scale when building models or other structures, and to fabricate, repair, upgrade, maintain and install exhibits.
  • Fabricate artifact mounts in accordance with industry approved standards.

  • This positon operates on an after hour schedule (before 0900 or after 1700) most frequently during non-public hours.

  • The incumbent routinely lifts objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

GS-05:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assist with maintaining exhibit or similar display features; track a maintenance schedule; and create lighting and mounting fabrications.

GS-07:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: develop recurring planned maintenance schedules for exhibits that range in complexity; clean and maintain exhibits; maintain a master tracking system for exhibit repairs and maintenance; interpret computer-aided designs (CAD); and manage a HazMat program.

Have successfully completed a four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in a major study such as illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position.

Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

Have QUALIFICATIONS listed above.

GS-07:
Have successfully completed one full year of graduate level education in a major study such as illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position.
OR
Have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement in a major study such as illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
OR
Have QUALIFICATIONS listed above.
