Duties

Help
  • Planning, directing, and reviewing analytic work
  • Directs and conducts analysis of research results and data using advanced statistical techniques
  • Demonstrates advanced programming expertise using the latest version of advanced datascience software
  • Independently evaluates the application of computer programs to determine if they will perform the desired selection, statistical computations, analyses, and acceptable output formatting
  • Provide authoritative statistical input to reports, plans, and operations guidance
  • Assist in developing significant and innovative recommendations for advancing statistical programs and/or methods
  • Uses judgment and discretion in determining intent and in interpreting and revising existing policy and regulatory guidance
  • Directs the work and supervises an operational and technical workforce
  • Leads updates to other division civilian position descriptions during TDA reviews
  • Implements provisions of command programs in the areas of security, equal employment opportunity, affirmative action goals, prevention of sexual harassment, office safety, and employee management relations to assure equal treatment of all employees
  • Provides advice, counsel or instruction to subordinates on both work and administrative matters
  • Coordinates across the headquarters and subordinate commands to ensure staff collaboration
  • Facilitates collaboration between Analytic Teams and the data architect team
  • Seeks feedback from Senior Tech Advisor
  • Prepares to lead interactive agile development
  • Coordinates across the headquarters and subordinate commands to ensure staff collaboration
  • Informs, advises, persuades, presents and defends analyses, project recommendations, and policy guidance to top level managers

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Operations Research Analyst:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in operations research; or a degree with at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized experience:To qualify for the GS-14 grade level, you must show in your resume at least one full year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Utilizing various platforms to produce analytics that enable decision-making throughout an organization; 2) Performing programming using the latest version of advanced science data software, with a focus on open-source languages (e.g. R, Python, Scala, Julia) and interactive web application development (e.g. Shiny, Dash) and; 3) Providing leadership to a group of technical personnel.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
