Duties

Help

As the Senior Congressional Liaison, you will:

  • Provide strategic advice and other assistance to ensure effective Congressional relations and communications that successfully represent CFPB programs and policies, including strategies for responding to the most complex and sensitive Congressional oversight and investigations matters.
  • Assist in the development of organizational objectives and short and long-range program goals of the office.
  • Conduct research and gather information in connection to Congressional oversight investigations requests.
  • Draft, review, and edit effective and timely briefing memos and talking points for the Assistant Director and other senior Bureau leaders as needed.
  • Monitor and report regularly on Congressional oversight, the Bureau’s responses to Congressional oversight and investigations matters, and other oversight activities to ensure that the Assistant Director for Legislative Affairs is aware of and regularly apprised about Congressional oversight and investigations matters that are relevant to the Bureau’s work and mission.

The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: To qualify at the CN-71 level, you must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the CN-60 level in the Federal service. (For qualification purposes, the CN-60 level is broadly equivalent to GS-14.)  For this position, specialized experience is defined as:

  • reviewing and analyzing requests for oversight from Congress, including coordinating responses from various internal offices, AND
  • drafting and compiling responses to complex oversight requests, including editing and compiling the input of various parties to such responses, AND 
  • developing and maintaining relationships with both key congressional staff and internal partners, AND
  • managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and shortened timelines.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- A one year probationary period may be required.  
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency
- If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
- Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.  Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
