Summary

This position is for a Primary Care Physician for a Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Lynchburg. The physician directly responsible to the Chief of Primary Care Service Line and accountable for the provision of direct patient care and for the delivery of quality care to a culturally diverse population with complex needs. The Physician will be responsible for collaborating with a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) in coordinating care for Veterans locally and at the Salem VAMC .

Duties

Help

Manage chronic conditions, evaluate and treat intercurrent medical conditions and scree for onset of new health related conditions.

Collaborate with other primary care teams and providers when needed.

Coordinates patients care with support of Pharm D, social worker, dietician, integrated mental health professionals and a broad range of medical surgical and mental health specialist either on site or by telemetry.

Responsible for collaborating with a Patient Aligned Care Team(PACT) to provide accessible comprehensive, coordinated, continuous care to an assigned panel of patients.

Perform H&P examinations, medical clearance examinations and provide clinical supervision of NP's, PA's, Medical students and residents.

Ensure that the practice of medicine is consistent with Joint Commission Standards, VA policies and regulations, VISN standards, national statues and regulations, medical record documentation and HIPPA policies.

Responsible for multiple actives including access to care, encounter completion and customer satisfaction.

Responsible for all other duties as assigned based on organizational needs.



Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Clinical: Primary Care approx. 60%-100% time; Resident/Medical Student teaching 0-40% time as assigned.
Travel: Occasional travel to Salem VAMC for trainings or meetings.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/08/2019.
Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience:
American Heart Association BLS certified

Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements of this position include occasional lifting; prolonged standing and sitting; frequent bending; walking (distance); climbing; reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive); repetitive motion, and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall; reasoning; problem-solving; hearing; speaking clearly; writing legibly; reading; logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes-fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities; frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions; and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes-noisy environment. There may be an occasional need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness, and hazardous materials.
