In conjunction with the Associate Commissioner for Prices and Living Conditions, develops, plans, and directs the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) broad program of research, operations, compilation, measurement, and analysis in the area of consumer prices to meet a wide range of extremely sensitive public and private needs. Programs directed provide the official government data concerning trends in prices paid by consumers and the basis for adjudicating both public and private payments affecting the incomes of about half of the country's population.
In conjunction with the Associate Commissioner, consults with congressional committees, members of Congress, the Council of Economic Advisers, senior officials in the Federal Reserve, Department of Commerce and Department of the Treasury, Office of Management and Budget, chief executive officers and other senior officials of major corporations, journalists representing major media, trade associations, and university faculty on the economics of price determination and its relations to other economic variables on current economic developments and on further needs for economic intelligence. Represents the BLS and the Department of Labor (DOL) with authority to commit the BLS to a course of action.
Occasional travel - Travel by any means of government or public transportation may be required.
