Duties

Help

The primary focus of this Visual Information Specialist will be translating complicated ideas, data, and information into creative, easily understood infographics and animations for use in the agency’s external (i.e. public) communications and education efforts.

 The individual selected for this position will:

• Create innovative visual displays of quantitative and qualitative information, in forms including charts, graphs, diagrams, illustrations, and maps.
• Use specialized data visualization tools for print and web, such as Tableau, R, D3, ArcGIS and others, and demonstrate the ability to learn new tools when necessary.
• Create dynamic, engaging motion graphics and high-quality animations to enhance video content for a wide variety of internal and external audiences.
• Compose both still and rich media elements in a timely manner while working on several projects simultaneously.
• Oversee all phases of production, including scheduling, design, layout, production, and delivery.

Qualifications

You must meet the following United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements for the advertised position. OPM's prescribed Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Visual  Information Specialist can be found at OPM Qualification Standards.You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the job announcement.

Specialized Experience: is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service.

Candidates for the GS-12 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience for this position includes ALL of the following: (This experience must be specified in your resume)

Skill Set 1 - Experience gathering raw data and complicated or highly technical information and translating it into creative, easily understood graphics for use in an organization's external (i.e. public) communications and education efforts.

Skill Set 2 - Experience using InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator WITHIN Adobe Creative Cloud to create, edit, and develop visual images for use in a wide variety of external (i.e. public) communications such as brochures, posters, digital graphics, and social media.

Skill Set 3 - Experience using Premiere Pro and After Effects WITHIN Adobe Creative Cloud to create, edit and develop motion graphics, animation, and/or titling for use in an organization’s external (i.e. public) video communications.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education may not be substituted for experience to qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level.

This is a Public Trust position and has a risk level designation of "moderate".

Probationary Period- If selected, you may be required to complete an initial one-year probationary period.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
