    This position is located within the Peace Corps, Office of Inspector General (OIG), Investigations Unit. The incumbent is assigned work in support of OIG’s mission, to protect the integrity of the Agency-administered programs, responding to alleged or potential fraud, abuse, and wasteful practices in a variety of activities associated with those programs. The incumbent works independently on projects involving confidential and/or sensitive cases related to civil/criminal investigations.

    The Criminal Investigator performs the following major duties:

    • Conducting highly complex criminal investigations, often working with cold information and/or evidence or with highly reluctant witnesses or suspects; handling a significant volume of complex and sensitive internal affairs investigations possibly on high-ranking officials.
    • Conducting highly sensitive and complex cases, often overseas, which may include bribery, child sexual abuse, criminal fraud, homicide, narcotics violations, rape/sexual assault, and other violations of law, regulation, or Peace Corps policy.
    • Preparing clear and concise investigative reports and other documents in a timely manner and presenting all indicated and developed information to supervisors, attorneys and courts.
    • Responsible to plan and execute liaison operations for novel, critical, or precedent-setting programs, with national or international implications.
    • Inform stakeholders of changes in agency programs and operations, conducting briefings on major program changes.
    • Serves as an authoritative expert and provides advice and guidance in areas that require extensive interpretation for many different and unrelated program processes and methods.
