Duties

The incumbent:

Supervises the following functions: accessible programs, community programs, family programs, and academic programs, gallery talks and workshops for adults. S/he serves as a leader in efforts to conceptualize, innovate, and develop educational priorities informed by the needs and interests of diverse audiences, and seeks to strengthen the reach and impact of the Gallery’s permanent collection and special exhibitions.

Sets the broad strategic plan for and oversees the general direction of program areas. Incumbent leads community engagement and local outreach efforts for the institution, and seeks to raise the profile of public programming at the Gallery. Guides program areas in planning their annual suite of programs and offerings. Maintains a broad working knowledge of diverse program formats.

Directs the annual department budget, allocating funds and resources.  Works as part of a development team to prepare proposal and reports.  Advocates for department to the Head of Education and Administrator when new programs and opportunities arise.

Leads, develops, and supervises the Department of Public Programs staff of approximately twelve employees. Establishes performance goals and standards, supplies constructive feedback and training, and fosters an environment valuing diversity, integrity, and honesty, focused on ongoing improvement and customer service.”

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.

Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-13 level, managing an education program at a museum that benefits at least 5,000 learners in a given year.

Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria: Requires business travel.
