Joining the Secret Service, Office of Intergovernmental and Legislative Affairs, Liaison Division, will allow you to assist the Disclosure Officer with the oversight and management of objectives, goals and policies as it relates to the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act (FOIA/PA) program.  The Assistant Disclosure position starts at a salary of $114,590 (GS-14, step 1) with potential to $148,967 (GS 14, step 10).

Duties

Help

The selectee will serve as an Assistant Disclosure Officer in the Office of Intergovernmental and Legislative Affairs, Liaison Division.  Typical work assignments include:

  • Assisting in the formulation and implementation of organizational policies as it relates to the FOIA/PA program. Providing policy advice to management and specific agency components regarding the effects of either the FOIA/PA on any of the functional responsibilities of the various Secret Service components.
  • Collaborating with the Disclosure Officer on the formulation of short and long-range program area plans, goals, and objectives. Planning and directing the work to be accomplished based on priorities, specialized capabilities of the staff and consideration of the difficulties and requirements of various assignments.
  • Acting as a liaison with other federal, state, and local agencies with the goal of stabilizing uniformity with all Department of Homeland Security agencies to coordinate and facilitate the review and dissemination of pertinent information.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-14 level (starting salary $114,590) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level performing duties such as: collaborating short- and long-range strategic planning and policy development for the implementation of the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FOIA/PA); conducting the evaluations of the effectiveness and adequacy of programs, operations, work methods, and techniques; and planning and directing the work to be accomplished based on priorities, specialized capabilities of the staff and consideration of the difficulties and requirements of various assignments.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service.

  • Knowledge of public disclosure operations, FOIA/PA, federal and state laws governing or impacting disclosure programs in order to manage program operations and provide program direction.
  • Knowledge of analytical and evaluative methods and techniques of management, organizational principles and practices in order to assess FOIA/PA program effectiveness.
  • Ability to represent the organization as the liaison with program officials within other federal, state and local government agencies and private groups.
