Summary
The Sciences and Exploration Directorate, Earth Sciences Division, Geodesy and Geophysics Laboratory (Code 61A), is looking for a highly skilled individual to perform Earth science studies (hydrosphere, cryosphere, biosphere, atmospheric, oceanic, geologic processes and their interactions).

As a Research Physical Scientist, specializing in Earth Sciences Remote Sensing, you will be responsible for research in quantifying and understanding the contributions to sea-level change using space geodetic and remote sensing data, methodologies, and techniques. You will be responsible for highly advanced research in characterizing the contributions to the global water budget and sea level from continental waters using both satellite radar and laser altimeter remote sensing.
You will lead pioneering research of outstanding scope, difficulty, and complexity in space-borne radar and laser altimeter data analysis for applications in quantifying and understanding continental waters and contributions to regional and global sea level.
You will lead analysis of NASA satellite observations, focusing on satellite altimetry in combination with in situ data and model data to advance our understanding of continental waters and the contributions to sea-level change.
You will develop advanced algorithms and analysis techniques for processing both radar and laser altimetry. Results are presented at national and international conferences and are published in high quality scientific journals. Published results are of great significance to the scientific community, including national and international organizations, have a far-reaching effect, and advance the state of the art.
Applicants must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-13), which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
Specialized experience is defined as planning, developing, or coordinating Earth science studies through the analysis of data obtained from instruments aboard space and airborne vehicles; performing studies of hydrospheric, atmospheric, oceanic, biologic, organic, geologic, geophysical, or terrestrial processes and interactions; and quantifying the contributions to sea-level change using space geodetic and remote sensing data, methodologies, and techniques.

*Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science that provided in-depth knowledge of the following: (1) theoretical foundations and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations; and (2) essential mathematical and statistical techniques.
