  • Initiates, plans, and manages programs to correctly identify, collect, process or update spatial or address data.

Current Career/Career Conditional U.S. Census Bureau Employee:  This is a competitive temporary promotion opportunity not to exceed 1 year or 09/26/2020, whichever comes first with the possibility for extension at management's discretion. 

Non-Current Career/Career Conditional U.S. Census Bureau Employee: This position may be filled as a Temporary Appointment not to exceed 1 year or 09/26/2020, whichever comes first with the possibility for extension at management's discretion.

A trial period may be required.

This position is ELIGIBLE for telework; additional criteria will be required (e.g., supervisory approval).

Relocation expenses may not be paid.

This is a NON-BARGAINING unit position.

This is an open continuous announcement. The initial cutoff date for referral is December 6, 2018. After this date additional referral list will be created as vacancies are available. This announcement covers multiple positions within the various Directorates of the U.S. Census Bureau through June 28, 2019.

Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirement:

Degree: geography, or related physical or social science such as geology, meterology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.

OR

Combination of education and experience: equivalent to a major in geography, or related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Specialized Experience: For the GG-13, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes managing spatial or address data activities; designing or modifying geographic programs or operations; resolving operational and geographic problems associated with MAF/TIGER database files. Preparing reports on statistical data, geocoding, boundaries, maps, features, or other spatial data. Analyzing data for geographic support and address list development/maintenance programs, including making recommendations to address problems.

Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.
